Chittaranjan Park’s Durga Puja is the largest Bengali festival celebration outside Bengal, transforming Delhi’s “Little Kolkata” into a spectacular five-day cultural extravaganza.
What to Expect
The entire colony comes alive with 10+ elaborately themed pandals, each showcasing unique artistic visions — from traditional Bengali temple architecture to contemporary installations. The streets fill with the sound of dhak drums, the aroma of Bengali cooking, and hundreds of thousands of visitors from across Delhi NCR.
Major Pandals
- Mela Ground — The biggest and most crowded pandal, known for grand, ambitious themes
- Cooperative Ground — One of the “big three,” located near A Block
- B Block — Famous for spectacular lighting inspired by Chandannagar traditions
- Navapalli (Pocket 40) — Nostalgic, traditional themes
- Kali Bari — Spiritual, traditional worship experience
Food
During Durga Puja, temporary food courts spring up near every major pandal. Expect Kosha Mangsho, Luchi, rolls, biryani, phuchka, and an endless variety of Bengali sweets. Budget Rs 200-500 per person for a full food crawl.
Visitor Tips
- Take the metro — Nehru Enclave (Magenta Line) is 1.1 km away. Don’t drive.
- Visit on weekday evenings for smaller crowds; Ashtami and Navami evenings are the busiest
- Wear comfortable walking shoes — you’ll be on your feet for hours
- Carry cash — many food stalls don’t accept digital payments
- Start from the far pandals and work your way toward the main road
